Description: 🔴 1920s Princess Pat "Tap It" Lip Rouge & Powder Dispenser Pen Vintage Antique Rare Unique 1920s Princess Pat red rouge and loose face powder dispensing purse pen Princess Pat lip rouge and loose face powder holder in the shape of a pen with a round pointed tip Note To release powder, press down as though writing with a pen. The round top is engraved with the crown logo and says, "Princess Pat." The top is hinged and opens, exposing the lip rouge. Approximately 3" long. At that time, the American cosmetics industry was still struggling to find efficient, non-messy ways for women to use loose powder. Most inventions focused on creating leakproof containers or mechanisms that would control the flow of loose powder. But all still used the conventional shapes of the vanity cases – round or oblong. Fannie’s invention was radically different because it used a pen-shaped design. The ‘Tap It’, as it was promoted, released a small amount of face powder when it was tapped onto a pad, and it also contained lip rouge in a small container on the top. Whether the invention was really popular is not known for certain but it was produced for at least the next ten years.A Little More History .Patricia Gordon was not a princess. In fact, the co-founder and president of Chicago’s Princess Pat, Ltd. wasn’t even technically a “Pat.” A first-generation Jewish immigrant, she was born in Russia as Frances Berezniak in 1888, and was still known to her friends and husband / company co-founder Max Martin Gordon as “Fannie” well into her later years.The naming of the Gordons’ cosmetics line was initially intended as a trendy homage to Queen Victoria’s popular granddaughter, Princess Patricia of Connaught. But as the true public face and voice of the brand, Fannie Gordon eventually adapted her own identity to better serve the business.
