Description: Beautiful Gem Proof & Undocumented Variety! 1939 Jefferson Nickel Reverse of 1938 Re-engraved Obverse Design (Not on slab) PCGS PF66 Beautiful original golden patina with a burst of orange toward the obverse center. Struck from refurbished dies, showing hand some re-engraved features. The mint over-used the dies, then over-polished them, removing parts of letters and the ribbon. The triangular part of the ribbon was then hand re-engraved back into the dies. This practice was extensive, seen for virtually all of the early Jefferson Proofs, though the Cherrypicker's Guide does not list certain dates. They do not list any for 1939, so this is an undocumented, cool find! This piece shows the extra-strong re-engraved ribbon just like that seen on 1938 FS-402. PCGS will only list varieties listed in the CPG, so this one is not eligible currently. Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE RETURN POLICY!
