2024 Topps Heritage Baseball Card # 205 2009-MVP - Mauer / Pujols (NM)

Description: 2024 Topps Heritage Baseball Card # 205 2009-MVP - Mauer / Pujols (NM) 2024 Topps Heritage Baseball Trading Card Set2024 Topps Heritage Baseball takes things back to 1975 when Captain and Tennille were topping the music charts, Archie Bunker was being a curmudgeon from the comfort of his living room and a first class stamp was a dime. Here, it’s more about getting nostalgic for the likes of George Brett, Robin Yount and one of the most colorful designs to ever grace Topps’ flagship line. While there are a lot of similarities to previous Heritage sets in its build and scope, there’s one major change that gets to the heart of the brand’s base set.2024 Topps Heritage Baseball Checklist OverviewHeritage is traditionally a favorite for collectors who like to build sets. It taps into the origins of the hobby before hits and other chase cards. To that end, the 500-card checklist is one of the bigger ones of the year when it comes to a single release. Besides regular player cards, there are subsets for MVPs, League Leaders and more. The design is based on 1975 Topps Baseball. As has been the case for the past several years, the base set includes 100 short prints (1:3 packs). This is where one of the big changes comes in as the SPs move from the end of the checklist to the start. For those simply wanting to build a shell set of the 400 main cards, that now means going from #101-500 (replacing #407, a stray short print, with #82, not an SP). From a set building perspective, that gap at the front a lot different and harder to ignore than when they land at the end.2002 Topps Traded and 2002 Fleer Tradition Baseball are a couple of modern products that have taken this approach.Among the parallels are Red Border cards, which are exclusive to Target giant boxes. Flip Stock return as hobby exclusives. These reverse the side of the sheet the cards are printed on. As a result, the fronts on these feel rougher and backs have more of a glossy finish. Needless to say, they’re not the easiest cards to spot. The 2024 Topps Heritage Baseball checklist has several variation themes that change base cards in various ways. These include Black and White Images, Color Swap, White Border, Nicknames and the historically popular Throwback Uniforms. Image, Black Border, Error and Missing Facsimile Signature Variations are also on the checklist and are exclusive to hobby.2024 Topps Heritage ChromeSelect cards also have Chrome versions (/999), giving them a distinctly modern twist. These have their own mix of parallels:Blue Sparkle Refractors (three per monster box)Purple Refractors (hobby and blaster boxes only)Refractors – /575Silver – /375Black – /75Gold – /5 (hobby only)Superfractors – 1/1Autographs and Memorabilia CardsOver the years, Heritage has developed a strong following for its hits. That said, the product doesn’t take a quantity approach to what’s promised in every box. Autographs are actually fairly tough with plain jersey swatches showing up a lot more frequently.Real One Autographs anchor the signatures. These combine a multi-generational checklist, the 1975 design and on-card signatures. Red Ink Special Edition parallels are numbered to 75.Real One Dual (/25) and Triple Autographs (/5) are only available in hobby packs.New to 2024 Topps Heritage Baseball are 1975 Topps Award Winner Buyback Autographs. Signers on these came up big in the mid ’70s. Original Topps cards are used for these. Also using players from 1975 are Flashback Autograph Relics (/25 or less).1975 Baseball Cut Signatures and 1975 Celebrity Cut Signatures are all one-of-ones.Memorabilia cards continue to be anchored by Clubhouse Collection. Standard versions have Gold parallels numbered to 99 and under. There are also Dual (/75), Triple (/25) and Quad (/10) Clubhouse Collection cards with the equivalent number of players. Autographed Relics top ut at 25 copies.Stamps replace tradition gear in 1975 U.S. Postage Stamp Relics (/50).Throwback InsertsThe nods to 1975 don’t end with the base set. In fact, that’s just the start. Whether it’s designs or themes, inserts head back five decades as well.Baseball Flashbacks and News Flashbacks both return, looking at what happened on and off the field that year. Then and Now compare current players with stars with similar stats from the time that Jaws was taking a blockbuster bite out of the box office.Another year, there’s another installment of New Age Performers as well.Oversized 1975 Topps Baseball blow up select 2024 Heritage base cards. Some of these also have scarce autograph versions.A couple of retail-exclusive insert sets dive deep into 1975 from a trading card perspective but not necessarily baseball. 1975 Topps Baseball Sensations uses the company’s 1975 Bay City Rollers design to spotlight current and retired players. Gold Foilboard versions are only in Walmart packs while Platinum Foilboard are Target exclusives. In both instances, cards are limited to 999 copies each.Literal interpretations of mascots and nicknames are the focus of 1975 Topps Zoo’s Who Stick-Ons. The inspiration set was all about animals and wildlife. Like Baseball Sensations, there are Walmart (Blue) and Target (Red) exclusives with print runs of 999.1975 Topps in 3D is a third retail-only insert set.Hobby boxes continue to offer box loaders. This year they come in two general forms. 1975 Topps Originals are vintage cards that have a stamp added to them.2024 Topps Heritage Baseball cards at a glance:Cards per pack: Hobby – 9, Blaster – 9, Monster Box – 9, Hanger Box – 35, Fat Packs – 20Packs per box: Hobby – 24, Blaster – 8, Monster Box – 15, Hanger Box – 1, Fat Packs – 108Boxes per case: Hobby – 12, Blaster – 40, Monster Box – 20, Hanger Box – 64, Fat Packs – 1How We Grade: Gem Mint (GMT): (10.0) A flawless card. To be in Gem Mint condition, a card’s borders must have a ratio of 50/50 side to side and top to bottom. Mint (MT): (9.0-9.5) A perfect card. Well-centered with parallel borders which appear equal to the naked eye. Four sharp, square corners. No creases, edge dents, surface scratches, paper flaws, loss of luster, yellowing or fading, regardless of age. No imperfectly printed cards – out of register, badly cut or ink flawed – or card stained by contact with gum, wax or other substances can be considered truly Mint, even if new out of the pack. Generally, to be considered in Mint condition, a card’s borders must exist in a ratio of 60/40 side to side and top to bottom. Near Mint/Mint (NM/MT): (8.0-8.5) A super high-end card that appears Mint 9 at first glance, but upon closer inspection, may exhibit a very slight wax stain on reverse, slight fraying at one or two corners, or a minor printing imperfection. Centering must be app. 65/35 to 70/30 or better on the front and 90/10 or better on the reverse. Near Mint (NM): (7.0-7.5) A nearly perfect card at first glance, but upon closer inspection, may have slight surface wear, slight fraying on some corners, slightly out-of-register picture focus, a minor printing blemish or slight wax stain on reverse. Centering must be 70/30 to 75/25 or better on the front and 90/10 or better on the reverse. Excellent/Near Mint (EX/NM): (6.0-6.5) Card may have visible surface wear or a printing defect. A very light scratch. Corners may have slightly graduated fraying. Picture focus may be slightly out-of-register. Card may have minor wax stain on reverse, may have very slight nothing on edges. Centering must be 80/20 or better on the front and 90/10 or better on the reverse. Excellent (EX): (5.0-5.5) Corners are still fairly sharp with only moderate wear. Card borders may be off center as much as 85/15. No creases. May have very minor gum, wax or product stains, front or back. Surfaces may show slight loss of luster from rubbing across other cards. Dark bordered cards may have one or two small nicks. Very Good/Excellent (VG/EX): (4.0-4.5) Shows obvious handling, but still looks nice. Corners may be rounded or have minor creases. No major creases, tape marks or extraneous markings or writing. Surfaces does exhibit loss of luster, but the printing is intact. May have paper wrinkles. May show major gum, wax or other packaging stains. All four borders visible, though the ratio may be as poor as 95/5. Exhibits honest wear. Very Good (VG): (3.0-3.5) A well-worn card, but exhibits no intentional damage or abuse. May be “Mis-cut or Off-Center” with no border visible. May have major or multiple creases, however, creases are not so deep as to show the underlying paper. This card is completely readable, has not been written on, and has no tape marks or holes. Corner rounding may extend well beyond the border. Good (GD) (2.0-2.5) Shows excessive wear, along with damage or abuse. Will show all the wear characteristics of a Very Good card, along with such damage as thumb tack holes in or near margins, evidence of having been taped or pasted, perhaps small tears around the edges or creases so heavily as to break the cardboard. Backs may show minor added pen or pencil writing or be missing small bits of paper. Still basically a complete card. Poor (P): (1.0-1.5) A card that has been tortured to death. Corners or other areas may be torn off. Card may have been trimmed, show holes from a paper punch or have been used for BB gun practice. Front may have extraneous pen or pencil writing, or other defacement. Major portions of front or back design may be missing. Not a pretty sight.
