Description: A small plate and it’s origin… If you just see a blue plate with pink flowers with a bug on the leaf, you are beginning your quest. Turning it over you see an H & C as markings…. you missed the Co and the two insignificant lines under the green color…. Haviland & Company with two lines would signify a plate dating from 1876 to 1886. That would predate Theodore Haviland and the Limoge markings that came in 1893…. the flower is a desert rose and the bug is a red and black longhorn beetle which were hand painted before glazing in Limoges France. The most skilled designers, painters and sculptors of their time, such as Bracquemond, Dammouse, Suzannne Lalique, Gauguin, Dufy, Sandoz, Kandinsky and Dali have contributed to the reputation and history of Haviland. Motif inspired by japonism and artists of the period.
