Prior to taking office he "emerged as a paramount leader of the Indian independence movement" along with his tutor, Mahatma Gandhi. Holton was a staff photographer for Lindblad Expeditions. Lindblad's goal was to "traveled the world, looking for the rarest and most unique destinations for those travelers who wanted to really experience the ultimate in travel." It was rumored that Holton had photographed in every country of the world including the Soviet Union.
