Description: This rare and collectible book, titled "History of King Charles the First of England" by Jacob Abbott, is a must-have for any history enthusiast or lover of antiquities. Entered into congress in 1848 and Published in 1854 by Harper and Brothers in New York, this first edition book is beautifully illustrated and bound in hardback. The book is written in English and covers the history of King Charles, the first of England. The author, Jacob Abbott, was known for his extensive knowledge of history and this book is no exception. Beautiful black and white engravings are throughout the book along with a full color title page that is really spectacular! This particular book is in relatively good preowned condition but being that it is a 170 year old book that may have been used in schools during its time, it does have some flaws I would like to note. I am hoping this book can be forgiven for its few issues and still be loved and appreciated by someone out there! 😉Still it is a book to be enjoyed for its contents and/or the beauty of its antiquity! Front and back covers and spine feel intact and are in relatively good condition minus some staining and wear, mostly around the edges of the book and bottom edge of spine. Front cover has a few pinpoint holes near spine. Interior pages are completely free of any handwriting/drawings/markings. There is some staining on inside covers and some yellowing/spotting on first few and last few interior pages but the rest of the book looks very good and free of any major staining or damage. Book still feels well bound by most parts but the first few pages (including the colorful title page and tissue page), feel somewhat delicate, like they are beginning to detach a little. These pages may need some reinforcement soon with an appropriate archival quality book tape to secure those couple of pages from completely detaching in the future. There is a small corner torn off of on the bottom edge of the "Contents" page and interestingly, the page before this one (the "Preface" page), has a strange shaped extension tab of paper added to the same bottom corner area. (Please review pics for reference to these issues.) Book is free of any bad or musty odors. Book measures 7” x 4.5” Please review pics for best understanding of condition. Item is sold AS IS. Please feel free to ask me any questions. I am happy to help! The history of King Charles the First of England is one volume of several historical book volumes by Jacob Abbott and was “designed for the young reader”, although the writing style is very maturely written and just as appropriate for adults. Each volume centers on a different historical figure. Please check out my other listings for more antique history books by Jacob Abbott.
