Description: Item : This is a wonderful large old Hopi wicker bowl basket. Wicker baskets such as this one were woven by Hopi on the Third Mesa and were often used to carry fruit and vegetables. I estimate the age of this basket to circa. early 1900s. This basket measures 12 1/4" tall by 13 3/4" across at the rim. It has ultraviolet fade from age.. you can see some of the design from the inside. This very large Hopi wicker bowl is in great condition .. This basket came with several other baskets as part of a collection of Native American items from the Flagstaff Riordan family estate. (I've included a photo above of the group of Hopi wicker bowls that came with this collection. The Riordans were some of the earliest settlers of Flagstaff Arizona. They first settled in Flagstaff in 1884. They owned the Arizona Lumber and Timber Company. The Riordan brothers were associated with the development of Flagstaff from its earliest years. They are first cousins of the Babbitt brothers of Flagstaff. The Riordan Home is now a historic site and open to tours. I will be listing more items from this collection in the coming weeks. We guarantee all of our Native American Indian items to be AUTHENTIC American Indian traditional arts.
