Mexican Revolution Border War Emiliano Zapata on Horseback RPPC postcard 1910

Description: Mexican Revolution Border War Real Photo Postcard Emiliano Zapata (center) on Horseback 1910 Born a peasant in 1879, Zapata was forced into the Mexican army in 1908 following his attempt to recover village lands taken over by a rancher. After the revolution began in 1910, he raised an army of peasants in the southern state of Morelos under the slogan “Land and Liberty.” Demanding simple agrarian reforms, Zapata and his guerrilla farmers opposed the central Mexican government under Francisco Madero, later under Victoriano Huerta, and finally under Venustiano Carranza. "Gringo Zapatista", (left of Zapata) is Australian Roderick Marston who purchased a mine near Puebla, MX. Marston built a large estate, and was raided by Zapata in 1910. Zapata ordered Marston to be executed and then reconsidered, due Marston's experience with explosives. Live or die, Martson, donned the Zapatista hat, placed bandoliers on his shoulder, and became part of Zapata’s army. He was assigned to a battalion in Puebla, and put in charge of blowing up the roads and railways being used by the federal army to fight the Zapatistas. Zapata was ambushed and shot to death in Morelos by government forces in 1919. photographer: unknown condition: unposted, very good condition postcard sold with rigid clear archival photo protective sleeve will combine shipping selling collection, will be adding numerous postcards
