Description: Pair of Antique Late 19th Century Japanese Meiji Period Satsuma Hand Painted Vases 7 ½” Your Purchase Helps Support A Disabled Army Veteran Injured In Iraq Japanese Satsuma pottery from the Meiji period (1868-1912) is renowned for its intricate hand-painted designs, often featuring elaborate scenes of Japanese life and mythology, highlighted with gold accents. Originating from the Satsuma province under the patronage of the Shimazu clan, these exquisite pieces offer a fascinating glimpse into Japan's artistic heritage and adaptation to Western influences, making them highly sought after by collectors worldwide. Here we offer a pair of Japanese Satsuma vases, featuring the traditional cobalt ground color with gold accents and a painted scene of geishas in a garden with children. These vases are particularly interesting because the scenes are mirror images of each other, creating a beautiful balance when displayed together. As seen in our photos, these vases are stunning display pieces on their own, but are also truly beautiful when used as a flower vase (faux flowers). They are 7 ½” in height and in excellent condition, with some rubbing to the gold gilt & gold accents, and mild crazing as happens with age. No chips, cracks present. The top opening diameter is 2 ⅜” and the bottom base diameter is 2 ½”. They are 13 ½” around at the widest point. The base bears the Shimazu clan mark in gold and red, dating them to the mid-to-late 19th century.Feel free to ask any questions about this product by contacting us.
