Description: These seeds were collected from Pithecellobium dulce, also known as Madras Thorn, camachile, Manilla Tamarind, blackbead, sweet Inga, and monkeypod. This tree likes to live in full sun where it can grow up to 50 feet high. The greenish white, cream, and tan blossoms are very fragrant and out from late winter until early spring where they attract a lot of birds, bees, and butterflies. The seedpods have a sweet and sour pulp that is collected and eaten raw, used to make a lemonade type of drink, or boiled and used in desserts. The seeds are also eaten or used as animal fodder. An edible oil is also obtained from the seed and it it used to cook and make soap. The bark has tannins and can be used to either make a yellow dye or gum. USDA Hardiness Zones 10 to 11.
