Description: DESCRIPTION: Striking, small original watercolor titled 'Adobes' by listed New Mexico artist Foster Hyatt (1908-1995). This colorful little gem is done in a semi-abstract style and depicts some adobe homes on a hillside with a couple of golden cottonwood trees behind them and mountains beyond. Looks like it could be a Santa Fe or Taos scene. The painting is matted but unframed. The mat size is about 5 x 7", and the mat opening for the painting is 3" x 4". The painting is signed "F.H." in the lower left corner and has 2 ink stamps for the artist and his gallery on Canyon Road in Santa Fe on the back. It is titled "Adobes" and dated 1973 in pencil on back. Free Domestic Shipping! Artist Biography: Kansas native Foster Hyatt (1908-1995) painted his first watercolor in 1930, after turning his interest in horses into sketches while in high school. When he entered Oklahoma A&M (now OSU), Hyatt rejected the idea of studying to be a purist artist and chose to study architecture. At OSU, Hyatt met classmates Ralph Ball and Ed Hudgins, who later formed an architecture firm. In 1939 Ball and Hudgins asked Hyatt to create delineations (paintings of the proposed building and its surroundings). After working in Oklahoma for two years, he eventually moved on to open a delineation studio in Santa Fe. "It was then that he more and more got into his love, which is just pure art," said Rex Ball, chief executive officer of HTB Inc. Living in the oldest house in Santa Fe, Hyatt began his fine art and historical conquest. He used the watercolor and air brush medium to depict the old Spanish architecture of New Mexico and Arizona. "He started long before it was fashionable to protect or chronicle buildings," Ball said. "In some cases, the fact that he brought attention to a building has helped save it."_______________________________________________________________ MULTIPLE PURCHASES: I will gladly combine items for a savings on shipping!
