Description: Reed & Barton Silver Soldered Ribbed Glass PitcherI purchased this pitcher from a gentleman who was raised in Pennsylvania. He is 90 years old and has been married to his wife for 66 years. They have been in the antique business for decades and have amazing records and notes on the items they have acquired. They are downsizing now and have been fortunate to select some items from their collection. In other words, the provenance that I have is from oral history of the seller. According to the couple I acquired this item from, it came from the Pennsylvania Railroad. BUT I FIND NO PRR MARKINGS ON THE ITEM. I have also found this pitcher on the railroadiana site as an artifact used by railroads. They show image of several dining car items. There is a coffee pot. (not the same one as I have listed) that was used by the Pennsylvania railroad. Next to it is the exact pot that I have listed used by the union Pacific. This site intentionally shows items from a variety of railroads. So I’m certain that this pot was used on a variety of railroads. "In the early days of rail travel, railroad dining cars used beautiful blown glass in their table services. The elegant water pitcher was used on the Pennsylvania Railway. Typical of many railroad dining car pitchers, this piece is constructed of a strong metal frame and heavy duty glass -- a combination necessary to withstand repeated use on a moving dining car." http://www.railroadiana.org/shows/shows_chland08/pgShows_chland08d.php 10.5” tall 7.5” at widest point (including handle) Circa 1920’s
